Results updated 11 Mar 2025
The refreshed Greyfriars Masterplan, presented by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) and Studio Egret West (SEW), incorporates feedback from over 1,500 participants in the first engagement round.
The updated vision, shared during the second engagement between May and June 2024, includes transforming the former Greyfriars bus station, East and West Island, Mayorhold Car Park, Belgrave House, the Corn Exchange, and Victoria Street Car Park.
The study area was expanded to include Northgate bus station due to feedback on bus operations.
Engagement specialists Deetu facilitated the second consultation, reaching over 900 respondents through various methods, including social media, email campaigns, and a public exhibition, ensuring broad community involvement.
Cabinet endorsed the framework which set out the principles and approach on delivery during the Cabinet meeting in October 2024, approved the recommended delivery amoungst other decisions. It is noted that a further report will be presented with the proposals and business case before progressing with the scheme.

Overview
Have your say on our refreshed vision for Greyfriars.
Background
Greyfriars in Northampton is been identified as a site to benefit from significant regeneration and showcase the town’s deep history. There is an opportunity to bring the area to life by reinventing existing structures and the general ground area to highlight the towns historic links to shoemaking, leathercraft, brewing, art and music to name a few.
West Northamptonshire Council is working with consultation experts, Deetu and lead architects, Studio Egret West, to reimagine this area for today and tomorrow.
Towards the end of 2023, we shared our emerging vision to transform Greyfriars and asked for feedback on this.
We have taken all feedback into consideration, which helped us understand your ideas for how we might revamp this part of Northampton's town centre and from this we have developed a refreshed vision for the area.
We are now carrying out a second round of engagement which will complete this stage of the visioning work. Using these plans, we will seek to secure funding and begin the phased delivery of the site. There will be more opportunities after this to have your say on our plans. This will be as the project progresses and as we move into more detailed design of certain elements of the vision.
