Have your say on future waste services in West Northamptonshire

Overview

We are developing a Resources and Waste Strategy that will set out our long-term plan of action, and how we intend to achieve further improvements to align with and meet proposed Government waste policy changes.

We are asking for your views about all the waste and street cleansing services that we operate. Your views will help us shape the overall West Northamptonshire Resources and Waste Strategy for residents using household waste collection services.

Background

West Northamptonshire Council is responsible for collecting your household waste and arranging for it to be for recycled, treated, or disposed of. We also provide a range of special services for particular waste types such as clinical waste, commercial waste, and items of bulky household furniture. We run a network of six household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) where members of the public can take waste for reuse, recycling, or disposal. We are responsible for keeping streets and public open spaces free of litter and fly-tipping.

Proposed Government waste policy changes mean we may have to make changes to our waste services as we try to align with national objectives. This means that we must review how we collect, recycle, treat, and dispose of your waste, so that we can meet Governments requirements of reducing carbon emissions and providing best value services to our residents.

Since April 2021, we have implemented several changes to help to harmonise the waste services across West Northants as well as deliver improvements. We want to continue improving to provide fair, consistent services for residents and businesses in the area and lessen the impact waste collection, treatment and disposal has on the environment.

We are keen to understand how you feel about the service generally so that we can look at ways to help improve the overall experience of residents and trade customers.

How will feedback be used?

The feedback we receive will be collated and analysed and will help the council to prepare and shape its Resources and Waste Strategy. Your feedback will also help identify opportunities for improvements.

Your feedback will be part of a report with other people’s feedback, you will not be personally identified.

The draft strategy will go to Cabinet for their agreement, and once adopted will form the blueprint for the way in which waste services in West Northamptonshire will develop and improve over the years.
