Have your say on the Local Government Boundary Commission for England’s electoral review of new ward boundaries for West Northamptonshire

Closed 15 May 2023

Opened 7 Mar 2023

Overview

West Northamptonshire Council is currently undergoing an electoral review that is run by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. They are developing a new pattern of wards for West Northamptonshire Council and are now consulting on these proposals.

The Commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries. New boundaries are being proposed for council wards in West Northamptonshire.

The Commission is reviewing West Northamptonshire to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements will help the council work effectively and has published proposals for changes to West Northamptonshire.

It is proposing that there should be 35 wards, an increase of four from the current arrangements. There will be seven one-councillor, 15 two-councillor and 13 three-councillor wards across the council area. The boundaries of all wards should change.

Based on the evidence received following the first consultation, the Local Government Boundary Commission has decided that the number of councillors in West Northamptonshire should be 76 and not 77 as originally proposed during the initial consultation phase. This is a change from the current council which has 93.

The Commission wants to hear what residents and local organisations think about their local area. A 10-week consultation inviting proposals will run until 15 May 2023.

The  review consultation process for West Northamptonshire Council is as follows;

  • First consultation on warding arrangements: 30 August 2022 – 7 November 2022
  • Consultation on draft proposals: 7 March 2023 – 15 May 2023
  • Publication of final proposals: 1 August 2023
  • Following a parliamentary process, the new arrangments will apply to elections following May 2025
