Term Dates for West Northamptonshire schools for the 2027-28 academic year

Overview

West Northamptonshire Council is now consulting on proposed term dates for Local Authority (LA) maintained (Community and Voluntary Controlled) schools for the 2027-28 academic year.

The consultation will run from Monday 19 January to Sunday 15 February 2026.

Please note that Academies, Free, Foundation and Voluntary Aided schools can set their own term dates, although they may choose to adopt those used by the local authority.

Proposed Term Date Models:

For 2027-28 WNC is considering two differing models. We would like to invite comments to determine which term date pattern should be followed. The two proposed models are:

• Model 1 – reflects a 2 week break just before the Easter Weekend
• Model 2 – reflects one week's holiday each side of the Easter Weekend

In both models there are 195 school days. LA maintained schools must offer 190 pupil days so individual schools will be given the opportunity to choose their own 5 INSET/Teacher Training days in addition to the holiday dates given.

North Northamptonshire Council have published their term dates for 2027-28 and have opted for a 2-week break just before the Easter Weekend.

Oxfordshire County Council have published their term dates for 2027-28 and have opted for a week’s holiday each side of the Easter Weekend.

The other neighbouring authorities have yet to publish their dates but may currently be consulting on them. We understand that differing term dates with neighbouring authorities can have an impact on some families and so we would urge you to respond with your views.

Term is from Wednesday 1 September to Friday 17 December 2027

• Half term holiday: Monday 25 October to Friday 29 October 2027
• Christmas holiday: Monday 20 December 2027 to Monday 3 January 2028 
• Bank holidays: Monday 27 December 2027, Tuesday 28 December 2027 and Monday 3 January 2028

Spring term 2028

Term is from Tuesday 4 January to Friday 31 March 2028

• Half term holiday: Monday 14 February to Friday 18 February 2028
• Easter holiday: Monday 3 April to Monday 17 April 2028
• Bank holidays: Friday 14 April and Monday 17 April 2028

Summer term 2028

Term is from Tuesday 18 April to Friday 21 July 2028

• Half term holiday: Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June 2028
• Summer holiday: Monday 24 July to Thursday 31 August 2028
• Bank holidays: Monday 1 May, Monday 29 May and Monday 28 August 2028
