Your views on tackling domestic abuse

Overview

If you live or work in West Northamptonshire, are over the age of 16, and have experienced any form of abusive or harmful behaviour from someone you love or care about, such as a partner or family member, we want to hear from you.

Domestic abuse includes a wide range of experiences, from being controlled, manipulated, or emotionally abused, to physical, financial, or sexual abuse. It can, and does, affect anyone regardless of race, age, sex, gender, or sexuality. Because these experiences can be so broad, not all questions may be relevant to you, and you are free to skip any that do not apply.

An independent organisation called Davis and Associates are helping us to understand the needs of people who have experienced domestic abuse. You can find out more about them at www.davisandassociates.co.uk.

What is the aim of this survey?

We are committed to tackling domestic abuse. This survey has been developed to help inform how we work to improve the response in the area. The council and other agencies will be creating a strategy to improve the way everyone in the area responds to domestic abuse, including what services are available. We know that those with lived experience are the experts in what a good response should look like, so this independent survey will help us to hear your views, in order to shape that strategy.

What will the survey be like?

The survey is anonymous and will take around 15 minutes to complete. It will ask questions about your views and experiences of domestic abuse, the type of support that might have been helpful, and your experiences with any services you accessed in West Northamptonshire. Participation is completely voluntary.

How will the information I provide be used?

The findings from the survey will be presented in an independent report to the  Council. It will include quotes from the survey where useful. All your answers will be strictly confidential and your information will be grouped with others in a way that does not identify individuals. This report and its contents may be shared with wider partners or within our final strategy which will be a public document, however it will be completely anonymised so no individuals can be identified.

Safety and support

Your experiences of abusive and harmful behaviour are deeply personal, and we understand that answering questions about this can be distressing. Please only complete the survey if you feel both emotionally and physically safe to do so. The questions may seem personal, but they are important to help organisations in West Northamptonshire understand more about the experiences of those who have lived through domestic abuse, so they can shape their responses accordingly.

If you feel you would like help, support or advice in relation to domestic abuse, you can contact Northamptonshire Domestic Abuse Service, who support people of all sex/genders who have or are experiencing domestic abuse.
