Have your say on Further Road Traffic Enforcement Camera Locations in West Northants
Overview
West Northamptonshire Council seeks feedback on the proposed placement of road traffic enforcement cameras new and existing locations. This initiative is part of a broader ongoing programme aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.
What are moving traffic contraventions or offences?
Moving traffic contraventions or offences are where a driver of a vehicle does not follow the instruction or direction given by certain road signs and markings. These are usually red or blue roadside signs sometimes accompanied by yellow road markings. Red signs are prohibitions and blue signs are Directions.
Offences that are covered include but are not limited to the following:
- Ignoring no entry or no turning signs
- Entering yellow box junctions with no clear exit
- Stopping on school keep clear markings
- Driving where and when motor vehicles are prohibited
- Driving the wrong way up one-way streets or driving on routes for buses and taxis only
Below is a list of signs that show and explain what traffic offences are or could be considered
How are the locations decided?
Locations are identified through information held by the Council, the Police and other key stakeholders. We also consider feedback from communities thorough consultations or other engagement activities.
It is not possible to deliver enforcement for all the locations that have been identified. We complete work to make sure the sites are relevant and suitable. This includes using evidence of traffic-related safety concerns, congestion issues, and the inability to resolve these problems through alternative means.
Providing there are sufficient funds, any new locations are subject to a public consultation to allow the council to assess the level of non-compliance before any enforcement measures are put in place.
Our new proposed locations
We continue collaborating with the Police and other partners to enforce traffic offences effectively. This and feedback from communities has identified several areas that may benefit from enforcement to reduce congestion and enhance road safety across West Northamptonshire.
We have reviewed potential sites to determine which can be delivered and would provide the most benefit. The following show 13 locations in Northampton currlety being considered.

- Upton Valley Way East, junction with Banbury Lane
- Collingwood Road, junction with St Matthew’s Parade
- Abington Square, right turn onto Wellingborough Road side, near Charles Bradlaugh statue
