Overview

West Northamptonshire Council are consulting on a Masterplan for Daventry town centre.

In partnership with Savills Urban Design Studio, Mae and Camlins, we have developed a town centre vision and Masterplan for Daventry. The Masterplan identifies a range of key development opportunities and public realm improvements to act as a catalyst for economic growth.

Background

The Masterplan is developed on the principles established in the Daventry Vision 2035 which was adopted in 2021. It identifies a range of key development opportunities and public realm improvements within primary focus areas of the town centre. These will act as a catalyst for economic growth, whilst also helping to improve the quality of life for the residents of Daventry.

Feedback received as part of the 2035 Vision consultation and engagement has been collated, and informed and helped us to get the proposals presented on the town centre Masterplan.

You can view new proposals on our dedicated Daventry Town Centre Masterplan page of our website. This link opens in a new window.

What is in the Masterplan?

The outputs of the Masterplan are:

  1. Public Realm Framework

This will create an attractive and high-quality walking and cycling environment. The public realm interventions focus on key connections to improve linkages and connectivity within the town centre. Green and Blue infrastructure have been carefully considered in public spaces to improve biodiversity and enhance local ecology. Key focus areas are:

  • Market Place
  • Mulberry Square
  • High Street
  • Sheaf Street
  • The New Street Recreational Ground
  1. Mixed Uses and a better Retail Offer

Intervention sites can be developed to improve connections between key destinations of the town centre, to also improve footfall and therefore trade and retail offer. Parking areas have largely been retained within the centre but some parking courts will need to be consolidated to allow for development opportunities to come forward. Key areas are:

  • Market Place
  • Mulberry Square
  • Foundry Place upgrade
  • High Street fringe sites
  • Magistrates Court, Police Station and Mobility Centre sites

3. New Homes closer to the town centre

Two development sites are located along the northern fringe of the town centre. These are allocated development sites and will be developed to provide a wide range of homes for town centre living and to support the housing needs of the town’s varied demographic, placing community at the heart of the Town Centre’s revitalisation.

There is also an opportunity to deliver a well-designed Senior Living or Care Scheme which works across the townwide demographic to encourage a greater proportion of retirees into the town centre alongside family focussed provision. The two sites are:

  • Eastern Way
  • Ashby Road
